Hello My Name Is...
Mrs. Walters

Mrs.
Alice Walters, 316-8116; alicew@hickmanmills.org
Welcome Message: I am excited to be joining the team at Truman Elementary
School.
This is my sixth year of serving students and families in the Hickman
Mills C-1 School District. In addition
to teaching second grade, during my tenure in the school district I have served
as a district curriculum writer, elementary literacy coach, and a secondary communication
arts and social studies teacher.
Prior
to coming to Hickman Mills, I grew and learned with students, teachers and
families in rural and suburban school districts in Missouri as a teacher, curriculum
coordinator and administrator. Professional
degrees include a bachelor’s in elementary education from William Jewell
College, a master’s in
elementary administration from William
Woods University,
and an education specialist completed last December from Northwest Missouri
State University.
Grading Policy: Work is typically expected the same day it is assigned. Second grade uses E (exceeds the standard), M (meets the standard), W
(working toward the standard), and N
(not meeting the standard) for formal grade card. On most daily work a similar scale is used: Y= Most/all work correct, J= Some of the work is correct/completed, P= Little of the work is
correct/completed.

Class Information: Mrs. Walters’s Second Grade Class is a
mixture of students who have come together to grow and learn as a result of the
increased numbers in the second grade.
Our classroom is located in Room 14, the former LINC room, near the
school kitchen. Some things we have we
have learned so far are salt poured into soda produces gas (that made us think
of nachos and pop in our stomachs), that spheres are like basketballs and
cylinders are like cans of soup, and poetry can be fun to read. We are learning that school is about becoming
the best class, not just the best person.
Course Expectations: Truman’s High Five + One and Truman’s Motto
*Be
Kind *Be Safe *Be Cooperative *Be Respectful *Be
Peaceful *Be Prepared
“I
believe in me, the best I can be.”
Routinely
practicing these principles will foster success for students academically,
behaviorally, and socially.
